The 2020 Explorer has been completely redesigned - inside, outside and under the hood. In addition to capability enhancing features like rear-wheel drive, there are also two available trims. Ford now offers a commanding, no-compromise Explorer Limited Hybrid as well as the most powerful Explorer to date, the Explorer ST. With 400 horsepower, 415 lb.-ft. of torque and top speed of 143 mph, an ST brings the adventure to you.*

Intelligent 4WD
Keeping you on your path of discovery, available intelligent 4WD optimizes powertrain and braking systems, allowing the vehicle to deliver the right amount of traction to match the driving conditions.
Rear-Wheel Drive
The 2020 Explorer comes equippied with rear-wheel drive to maximize performance and design. RWD architecture enables a sportier, more athletic design, improved on and off-road capability and 600 pounds more in maximum towing capacity when properly equipped.
Terrain Management System™
The Terrain Management System can help you tackle any adventure with up to seven Selectable Drive Modes through a single easy-to-use dial in the center console. This includes normal, trail, deep snow/sand, slippery, sport, tow/haul and eco mode that each come with special 3D animated graphics in the available 12.3-inch digital cluster.
Towing and Trailer Sway Control
Building on AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control,™ the standard trailer sway control selectively brakes and adjusts engine power to maintain trailer control. The result is stability and control, even when towing large loads. When properly equipped, the Explorer can tow up to 5,600 lbs. The Class III Trailer Tow Package is available with the 2.3L EcoBoost and 3.3L hybrid engines, and comes standard with the 3.0L Ecoboost engine.

As part of the redesign, Explorer now offers two high-powered trims. The Explorer ST has an athletic look that's matched by a powerful 400-hp engine* and driving dynamics engineered by the Ford Performance team. The Explorer Limited Hybrid packs a similar punch, it is a no-compromise hybrid SUV that's engineered for big adventures. Not only is it the only hybrid in its class that can tow 5,000 pounds, it's also fully off-road capable. The rear-wheel-drive model also offers an EPA-estimated range of more than 500 miles between fill-ups.**
