EV Charging Options
When it comes to the kind of charging station you should use for your EV, it isn't  one-size-fits-all. This is because each vehicle's charging capacity, make, model, and ideal charging level will undoubtedly vary. There are a variety of EV charging options you should familiarize yourself with, including some Ford EV charging options. At the base level, three charging options are available: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3/Fast Charging, with two additional options that Ford has provided. We'll explore each one individually.
Level 1 Charger
This EV charging option uses the 120V outlet commonly found in homes to charge a vehicle from empty to 80% in 40-50 hours. Hybrid models can take anywhere from five to six hours to charge. While charging, you can get an estimated electric range of 2-5 miles charged per hour. This is ideal if you drive less than 20 miles a day and just need to top off your EV.
Level 2 Charger
With this unit, the time to charge your electric vehicle from empty to 80% reduces significantly to 4-10 hours. A hybrid EV also drops to 1-2 hours. This is because a Level 2 charger uses either a 240V outlet for residential charging or a 208V outlet for commercial charging, making it possible to be installed at home, at work, or found in public charging stations. You'll get an estimated electric range of 10-20 miles charged per hour, making it ideal for frequent drivers. Depending on the Ford model you select, using a Ford Mobile Power Chord on a Level 2 charger can get you 13-14 miles or up to 21 miles charged per hour.
Level 3/Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC)
When you're on the move, an effective EV charging option available is a DCFC station. Typically charging your vehicle to 80% in as little as 20 minutes to an hour, this fast charger is typically found in public charging stations and other public spaces. At such a short charging rate, the estimated electric range gets you 180-240 miles charged per hour. Unfortunately, hybrid vehicles don't have access to this technology yet, plus these stations typically wear your battery down faster. It's ideal for traveling long distances, but not to be used as the main method for charging.
Ford EV Battery Life
Ford EV Home Charging Options
While many EV charging options are available, nothing beats having a unit at home, as slower, at-home chargers tend to keep your battery the healthiest. It's inevitable that you'll have to change your battery, but a home station helps prolong the life of your electric vehicle. And with Ford EV charging options available, you can optimize your choice for the specific model you choose. Unlock the full potential of the Ford F-150 Lightning with the Ford Charge Station Pro, allowing you to charge from 19-30 miles per hour. If you choose the Ford Connected Charge Station, you can charge 15-27 miles per hour, depending on which model you're charging.
